For the second year in a row, American Heritage is heading to the State Championship Game.
On Friday, the Stallions knocked off Clearwater Central Catholic 31-24 to advance to the Class 3A State Championship. AH will square off against Jacksonville-Trinity Christian for a second straight season.
In the State Semifinals, American Heritage was propelled by yet another standout performance by DJ Davis. The do-it-all senior scored two touchdowns in the 4th quarter to help seal the victory for the Stallions.
On Saturday, AH will be looking for revenge against Trinity Christian. Last season, the Stallions fell 31-7 in the State Championship.
For the second conseutive week, Atlantic handed a previously-unbeaten team its first loss of the season. And for a second consecutive week, Atlantic is the Team IP Team of the Week.
In a showdown of unbeaten squads on Friday night, Atlantic powered past Dwyer 32-21 to finish off the regular season with a perfect 10-0. The defense was stout in the victory, recording three interceptions and two defensive touchdowns.
Atlantic now turns its attention to the FHSAA State Playoffs, where the team has its sights set on a Class 8A State Championship. The Eagles will open up their playoff campaign on Friday night against Wellington. Atlantic topped the Wolverines 49-7 in the first week of the season.
In a battle between on unbeaten squads, it was Atlantic who emerged without a loss.
On Friday night, the Eagles went on the road and knocked off previously undefeated Boca Raton 21-9. With the victory, Atlantic improved to 9-0 on the season and clinched the District 10-8A Title.
The Eagles entered the 4th quarter trailing 9-7, but orchestrated a late drive to score go-ahead touchdown with just over a minute to play with Lamar Washington powering his way in from two yards out. Senior linebacker Chanler Ferguson sealed the deal a couple of plays later as he picked off Philip Santiago and returned it for a touchdown.
Atlantic will wrap up the season on Friday night at Dwyer.
For the first time since 2002, the Suncoast Chargers are District Champs.
On Friday night, the team pulled off a thrilling come-from-behind victory, scoring with four seconds left to edge Fort Pierce Westwood 31-27. Trailing by three points, senior quarterback Matt Dame orchestrated a brilliant two-minute drive, leading the Chargers to the Panthers 8-yard line with nine seconds remaining.
The Columbia commit then found sophomore wideout Austin Evans in the corner of the end zone for an 8-yard touchdown strike to put Suncoast on top for good. Dame was sensational in the victory, finishing 25-39 for 389 yards and 4 touchdowns.
With the victory, the Chargers finish district play with a perfect 2-0 record.
Boca Raton remains perfect.
On Friday, the Bobcats continued their stellar 2015 season, knocking off Park Vista 45-14. With the win, Boca Raton improved to 7-0 on the season. It's the team's best start since 2008, when it also began the year 7-0.
Quarterback Philip Santlago paced the Bobcats in the victory, rushing for two touchdowns. Boca Raton will put its unbeaten record on the line this week as it takes on Lake Worth. In two weeks, the Bobcats will host unbeaten Atlantic in what will likely determine the district title.
Oxbridge Academy issued a serious statement in its first-ever district game.
Facing small-school power American Heritage, the Thunderwolves pounded their way to an impressive 24-7 victory. Oxbridge Academy's interior defense put up a herculean effort, holding the Stallions' powerful ground attack to under 100 rushing yards.
Offensively, star running back Travis Homer carried the ball 35 times for 148 yards in the victory. Junior quarterback Angelo Navaroli came through in the clutch for the Thunderwolves, connecting with wide receiver Trey Green for a 30-yard touchdown strike on 4th and 7 to help seal the victory for the Thunderwolves.
With the win, Oxbridge now sits in the driver's seat in District 7-3A. The Thunderwolves, who play in a three-team district, will face Cardinal Newman on October 29th in its final district contest.
