BOCA RATON - Most 21-year-old athletes in the United States are still stuck in college, only beginning to dream of a career in professional sports. For Boca Raton's Jozy Altidore, that is not the case.
At his first annual summer camp at Saint Andrew's School, Altidore officially announced to a small group of reporters today that he would be transferring from Spain’s Villarreal to the Netherlands’ AZ Alkmaar. It will be the fourth European team, and fifth professional team overall that Altidore has played for in his young career.
ESPN 760 was at Saint Andrew's School (Boca Raton) today for Altidore's announcement.
In a Dutch league known for it's wide open style of play and tactical creativity, Altidore's combination of size and speed could lead to great success for him. If anything, it should be a more suitable environment for the young star to continue to grow and develop.
