Anytime the Owls knock off FIU it is reason for celebration in Boca. Let’s take a look at a few notes from the 66-64 victory down in Miami.
-the Sun Belt has to look at the crowd at this game and strongly reconsider picking FIU for TV games. If they can’t get people into the stands on a Saturday for a rivalry game, not sure what will get them in.
-the game could have gotten out of hand early if not for a 6-0 Jordan McCoy run. He would end up finishing the night with his 1st career double double.
-the Owls struggled a lot early on, so had to be feeling good with the 2 point half time lead.
-Coach Jarvis was noticeably upset with his team’s late turnovers when trying to put the game away.
-the Owls led by 5 with 27 seconds left but a late FIU 3, followed by a Shavar Richardson travel and 2 Panther free throws tied things up late.
-Greg Gantt was then able to draw a foul while shooting a 3 with under a second to go in the game, where he hit 2 of 3 for the win. Mike Jarvis II said postgame that the plan was for Gantt to intentionally miss the last free throw.
-the Owls are above .500 in conference play for the 1st time this season and host Western Kentucky on Thursday.
