Mike Jarvis’ contract situation has been an elephant in the room all year long as the Owls basketball season has played out. The man who brought the school their 1st conference title last season has been coaching out the year on the final year of a 4 year contract. Now as the season comes to an end with the team headed to Hot Springs for the Sun Belt tourney, there still isn’t a definite answer on if Jarvis will still be on the Owls bench next season.
Last night on the FAU Sportspage on ESPN 760 from the Hooters in Boca Raton, Coach Jarvis was pretty straight forward when asked about his contract status heading into next season and said that if you want a real decision you ask his wife who would say the following “..This team this year has underachieved in his eyes and that you know, you never leave a job undone. So I have every intention of being back at FAU. Now do I have a contract, at the moment, no, but who needs a contract. I will be back”
How the season comes to an end in the Sun Belt Tournament could go a long way in determining the worth of Coach Jarvis. Jarvis has been very vocal about the fact that a new contract isn’t about getting himself paid but instead making sure he has well paid assistants. The Owls open up the Sun Belt Tournament on Saturday at 7:15 against Arkansas St.
