The FHSAA has responded swiftly in the wake of last night's incident during a playoff lacrosse game, in which a St. Thomas Aquinas player sucker punched a St. Andrew's player.
St. Thomas Aquinas defender Jake Champion has been suspended for six weeks by the FHSAA for level 2 unsportsmanlike conduct. No additional punishment will be levied against the school.
The incident occurred near the end of the third quarter of the Third Round Play-In Game with St. Andrew's in full control, up 15-5. After being ejected for throwing a punch, Champion sucker punched St. Andrew's attackman Jordan Todd as he was being ushered toward the sidelines. Todd remained on the ground for about 20 seconds, but was able to get up on his own power and finish the game.
Champion is a senior, so his suspension is moot with the Raiders' season officially over.
