ESPN West Palm's "coach", Chris Kokell, gives a comprehesive film breakdown of high school football prospects across Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.
School: Boynton Beach (Class of 2015)
Top 5 Offers: Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina, Nebraska
Note: Won "Quarterback MVP" at Miami Rivals Camp
Where He Excels:
Uses his 6'3" frame to stand tall in the pocket and see over the line. Very fast and has great vision. Pocket presence allows Jackson to extend plays while keeping his eyes down field. Often Jackson is the best athlete on the field which makes him threat to take off and run on any play. His strong arm and great deep ball keeps safeties from creeping in the box to give run support. Throws are very accurate and often puts the ball where only his receivers can make a play. Extremely quick release.
What To Work On:
Lamar Jackson has so much athletic ability and arm strength that he doesn't need to rely on his mechanics. This will get him in trouble at the next level. Also, gives coaches thoughts of moving him from QB to a different skill position which would be a travesty. If Jackson focuses on cleaning up his mechanics this off season he should become the five-star recruit he strives to be.
Kokell's Film Analysis:
My video game football life started with Ten Yard Fight, moved in succession to Tecmo Bowl, Tecmo Super Bowl, John Madden Football and now Lamar Jackson.
Comparing Lamar Jackson to most High School quarterbacks is like comparing Nintendo to Play Station 4. Some QB's are great passers and other are great runners. Lamar Jackson is both. He is an amazing athlete that also can throw the ball 60 yards with quick flick of the wrist. Plain and simple, Lamar Jackson is the most dynamic high school football player I have ever seen in person.
