#FilmRoom1063: Taking a look at Fort Pierce Central WR Nehari Crawford

May 15, 2014 -- 12:24pm

ESPN West Palm's "coach", Chris Kokell, gives a comprehesive film breakdown of high school football prospects across Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.

NEHARI CRAWFORD

(Source: 24/7 Sports)

Position: Wide Receiver
School: Fort Pierce Central (Class of 2015)
Height: 5-11
Weight: 173
Top 5 Offer: Bucknell
Note: Ran a 4.46 40-yd dash during US Army National Combine. Is an accomplished track and field athlete.

Where He Excels:
If you need to stretch the field to open up the run game, then Nehari Crawford is your guy. Runs a great skinny post and finds the seam between the corner and the safety. Crawford’s catching ability is above average and he excels after the catch. When playing Fort Pierce Central, opponents better work on pursuit drills because it’s going to take more than one guy to take Crawford down in the open field. Crawford wants to score every time he catches the ball. His plus field vision and big heart allows him to do this often.

What To Work On:
I’m a little concerned about his route-running capabilities. On film I see him mainly running a post or fly pattern. I would love to see him run more traditional college routes like 3 step slant, curls, comeback and deep outs. The dirty post corner Nehari ran at the 2:08 mark on his film lets me know he is capable, just need to see it more. Even though Crawford is a sure handed receiver, needs to go through drills catching the ball off his chest to make transition to ball carrier more fluid. This will also help him keep the ball away from defenders when the competition gets stiffer at the next level. Displaying the passion he shows when the ball is in his hands when he is blocking for others would go along way for Crawford.

Kokell's Film Analysis:
Nehari Crawford is undersized to be a split end and is more suited to play in the slot. It is in this position that his quickness and ability to make defenders miss will allow him to flourish. It’s very cliché, but it’s not about the size of the dog in the fight, it's the fight in the dog. Crawford will have to work for everything he gets at the next level but will succeed and be his quarterback's best friend and favorite target. I hope his size doesn't cause college coaches to overlook what Nehari brings to the table because he has that special “it” and adds what every receiving group needs.
