ESPN West Palm's "coach", Chris Kokell, gives a comprehesive film breakdown of high school football prospects across Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.
School: Seminole Ridge (Class of 2016)
Note: Started as a sophomore last year.
Where He Excels:
Jake Jones is mean and nasty. Great explosion. Love the way he stays on blocks after initial contact. Jones keeps his legs driving and has good arm extension. Always plays whistle to whistle and finishes his blocks. Jones moves very well after the snap. Quick feet for a player his size. This helps him get to the next level. Could be used as a pulling center if needed schematically. Equally impressive blocking a nose, a gap player and linebacker. Shows the ability to play in the gun.
What to Work On:
Would like to see Jones be more consistent with his shotgun snap. Shows he can do it but Jones should spend 5-10 minutes every day working on mastering the craft. Snapping should becoming a natural move for a center as dominant as Jones can be. A workout film showing long snapping would make him that much more valuable to college coaches. Nit-picking her, but needs to lay off the blocks behind the play. All that can come out of it is a 15-yard penalty, or worse, an injured player.
Kokell Film Analysis:
Jake Jones is one of the better offensive linemen I have seen this year. You can tell he just loves playing the position and putting defensive linemen on their backs. Seems hungry for more after each play. Talked with a coach at Seminole Ridge and they feel Jones has the potential to be the best offensive lineman in school history. Big time words considering the strong run game the Hawks have year in and year out. If Jones was a few inches taller, he would be a nationally recognized recruit. Definitely a solid Division I prospect that can play center, but also moves well enough to be a guard. If Jake Jones falls to the FCS level, a program is getting a steal!
