#FilmRoom1063: Palm Beach Central ATH Kemar Downer

Jul 24, 2014 -- 12:48pm
ESPN West Palm's "coach", Chris Kokell, gives a comprehesive film breakdown of high school football prospects across Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.

KEMAR DOWNER

Position: Quarterback, Wide Receiver, Running Back
School: Palm Beach Central (Class of 2015)
Height: 6-0
Weight: 185
Top Offers: None
Note: Palm Beach Central went 6-1 with Downer at QB last season. Only loss was a playoff defeat to Palm Beach Gardens.

Where He Excels:
Big play threat that can score from anywhere on the field. Great speed and leaping ability. His football IQ and vision are uncanny. It seems like he sees the play before it happens. Sets up cutting lanes well allowing him to know where defenders are going before they do. Downer is TOUGH. Takes big hits all game long and keeps his legs pumping while seemingly asking for more. Plays with no fear.

What To Work On:
Needs to put on weight so he doesn't fall in that "tweener" category between running backs and slot receivers at the next level.  Doesn't have bad hands but still catches with his body. Needs to get used to going out and extending his arms to catch the ball to be able to beat defenders with similar athletic ability.

Kokell's Film Analysis:
Had the pleasure of calling one of Palm Beach Central's games last year and Kemar Downer is the player that stood out above the rest. Downer is anything but ordinary for anyone who watches him play. His ability to play RB, WR and even QB. Stimulates the minds of offensive coordinators and allows them to get creative in their game plan. On defense he is a solid tackler and displays good man coverage skills. His natural feel for the game allows him to be in the right place at the right time for interceptions while playing zone. Projects to be a running back or cornerback at the next level.
