ESPN West Palm's "coach", Chris Kokell, gives a comprehesive film breakdown of high school football prospects across Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.
(Source: 24/7 Sports)
School: American Heritage (Class of 2016)
NOTE: Has run for 1,385 yards and 15 touchdowns this year.
Where He Excels:
Devin Singletary is a strong physical runner that breaks a lot of tackles. Plays very tough. Opponents need to swarm to the ball and gang tackle or Singletary will find the end zone. Very elusive for a powerful runner. Plus cutting ability and change of direction. Good vision. Does a good job with ball security. Singletary uses his low center of gravity and runs with a low pad level. This compact running style lets him avoid the big hit and keeps him fresh to be an every down back when needed.
What To Work On:
Singletary finds a way to break off big runs but he does not have true breakaway speed. This would be the area of focus in the offseason. Dedicated speed training can make a world of difference. I would remove the defensive film off of the tape as it doesn’t add value. Should replace it with film of Singletary catching the ball (even if it is just a workout tape). Nitpicking but Singletary needs to finish his TD runs running hard. This will make him look faster on film.
Kokell Film Analysis:
I love Devin Singletary's physicality. It is a coach’s dream. On a stacked roster, the junior running back has become the brightest star. As dominant as Singletary has been this year, I think he can refine his skills and be even better as a senior. If he puts in the work needed, Singletary can be the top running back in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. With American Heritage losing so much talent to graduation, the Stallions will be relying on this elevation of Singletary’s game to make another run at a state championship.
